General Catalyst is a Cambridge, Massachusetts-based global venture capital and growth investment firm, founded in 2000, that backs companies from seed through growth and increasingly operates as an investment and transformation company. It invests mainly in applied AI, enterprise software, fintech, health (through its Health Assurance strategy), defence and resilience, and consumer, with offices in the United States, Europe and India; its European business grew through the 2024 acquisition of Berlin-based La Famiglia. In October 2024 the firm raised $8 billion for Fund XII, including $4.5 billion for its core venture funds, $1.5 billion for its creation strategy and $2 billion in separately managed accounts. It has backed more than 800 companies, including Airbnb, Stripe, Snap, HubSpot, Canva, Samsara, Gusto, Ramp, Anduril, Helsing, Mistral AI, Anthropic, Glean and Sword Health.
