Oxhyd Energy S.L. is a spin-off of the Catalonia Institute for Energy Research (IREC) and the Catalan Institution for Research and Advanced Studies (ICREA), incorporated in February 2026 and based at IREC's site in the Barcelona area. It develops solid oxide fuel cells and electrolysers made from 3D-printed ceramic materials, so the same device can generate electricity or produce green hydrogen. It reports power densities above 2 kW per litre and 0.5 kW per kilogram and expects industrial manufacturing costs below €1,000 per kW. Oxhyd targets energy-intensive industry, ports, maritime transport and data centres. The technology comes from more than a decade of work in IREC's Nanoionics and Fuel Cells department, including the EU-funded Cell3Ditor and HyP3D projects. Before incorporation, the project won the seed category of the Catalonia Efficient Energy Cluster's EmergEnt awards in June 2025 and was funded by AGAUR's Knowledge Industry programme. In July 2026 Mobile World Capital Barcelona added it to its portfolio through The Collider technology-transfer programme, and in September 2026 it began BerriUp's 21st acceleration programme.

Global models 4

Bloom Energy
United States · www.bloomenergy.com ↗
Bloom builds and sells solid oxide fuel cell power systems and solid oxide electrolysers to industrial, utility and data-centre customers, the same reversible solid oxide hardware model as Oxhyd; the figure is the venture capital it raised before its 2018 IPO.
$1BComparable
Sunfire
Sunfire makes and sells high-temperature solid oxide electrolysers (plus alkaline units) for green hydrogen and syngas to heavy industry and refineries, the same business of selling solid oxide equipment to energy-intensive users.
$487MComparable
Elcogen
Estonia · elcogen.com ↗
Elcogen makes ceramic solid oxide cells and stacks that run as fuel cells or electrolysers, and sells them to system builders and industrial partners, the closest match to Oxhyd's reversible ceramic cell technology.
$110MComparable
SolydEra
SolydEra (formerly SOLIDpower) develops and sells solid oxide fuel cell systems and stacks for power generation and electrolysis, the same kind of solid oxide hardware business.
