Innerva Pharmaceuticals is a Barcelona-based biotech company developing first-in-class neuromodulator drugs that block PIEZO2 ion channels to treat pain. Its lead candidate, INE-1001, is a topical eye-drop formulation that blocks PIEZO2 channels in the nerve endings of the eye's surface, aimed at ocular surface pain and dry eye disease, and is licensed from the University of Tennessee Research Foundation. The company also has a preclinical asset for knee joint pain. Innerva was founded in 2022 by serial biotech entrepreneur Patrick Tresserras and neuroscientist Professor Carlos Belmonte. It raised a €2.3 million seed round led by Inveready through its Inveready Biotech III fund, alongside entrepreneurs and business angels.
