KKintsugi Therapeutics
Kintsugi Therapeutics is a Barcelona-based preclinical-stage biopharmaceutical company developing therapies for liver disease that act by regulating endoplasmic reticulum stress. Its lead candidate is a first-in-class endoplasmic reticulum stress inhibitor for non-alcoholic steatohepatitis (NASH), designed to act on several disease mechanisms, including fat accumulation, cell death and inflammation. The company was founded in 2019 by Carmen Herrero and Marc Cusachs and is supported by a scientific and medical advisory board of liver and metabolic disease specialists. Its first €691,000 went to patent protection and animal studies. In November 2021 it raised a further €1 million seed round through the Capital Cell equity crowdfunding platform, with Women Angels for STEAM (WA4STEAM) among the lead investors, to fund regulatory preclinical studies and drug manufacturing ahead of clinical trials. EIT Health has also backed the company.
