ELEM Biotech is a Barcelona-based biosimulation company that builds healthcare digital twins, computational models of human organs used to run in silico (virtual) trials for pharmaceutical companies, contract research organisations, medical device manufacturers and regulators. Its cloud platform V.HEART Trials lets users set up, run and analyse virtual clinical trials, and V.HEART Discovery flags drug candidates at risk of QT prolongation in humans. The company reports more than 15,000 digital twin studies completed. Its core technology is based on the Alya multi-physics simulation code. It was founded in 2018 as a spin-off of the Barcelona Supercomputing Center (BSC), UPC and CSIC, and also has an office in Bristol. ELEM has raised seed funding through Capital Cell and Namarel Ventures, along with European Innovation Council (EIC) grant funding.
