ABANCA Innova is the open innovation and corporate venturing arm of the Spanish bank ABANCA. It was launched in 2016 and is based in A Coruña. It runs a venture-client programme, now in its 13th edition, in which the bank becomes a customer of early-stage technology start-ups through proof-of-concept projects with its business areas. The programme focuses on fintech, insurtech, regtech, cybersecurity, sustainability, artificial intelligence and tokenization of digital assets, with a historical focus on Galicia and northern Spain. Selected start-ups can also receive direct equity investment or convertible participating loans through the bank's investment vehicle. Start-ups that have taken part include KYCredit, Lendmarket, LiveTopic, Card Dynamics, MicAppital, MyChoice2Pay and SenseiTrade, and the bank co-led a €2.1M round in the cybersecurity start-up Ironchip.
