OOpen Cosmos
Open Cosmos is a Harwell-based space company that designs, builds, launches and operates small satellites for Earth observation and connectivity, serving government agencies, defence and commercial customers. Its offering spans four platforms: OpenOrbit (satellite missions end to end), OpenConstellation (a shared satellite infrastructure that cuts Earth-observation delivery times from 48 hours to about 30 minutes), ConnectedCosmos (sovereign broadband and IoT communications) and DataCosmos (AI-driven intelligence from satellite imagery and sensor data). Customers include the European Space Agency, the UK Space Agency, the Greek government and the Balearic Islands government. It has signed more than $370 million in contracts over three and a half years, has grown profitably for five years in a row, can build one satellite a day across four European factories and has about 400 employees in the UK, Spain, Portugal and Greece. Rafel Jordà Siquier founded the company in 2015. It raised only $7 million of outside capital before a $50 million Series B in 2023, led by ETF Partners, Trill Impact and A&G, and a €300 million Series C in September 2026 led by Lightrock and ETF Partners, with the Institut Català de Finances, Entrepreneurs First, BCI, NSSIF, Phoenix Court and Claret Capital Partners among the other investors.
